It is thus adapted to Senegalese realities while respecting religious and ethical values, as well as
customs.
This is the purpose of this bill.
The National Assembly adopted, in its session of Tuesday July 19, 2005;
The President of the Republic promulgates the law, the content of which follows:
First chapter. - General provisions
First article. - Within the meaning of this law, reproductive health is defined as the general wellbeing, both physical, mental and social, of the human person, for everything concerning the genital
system, its functions and its functioning.
Everyone has the right to be informed and to use the methods of birth control of their choice that are
not against the law, methods which must be safe, effective, accessible and acceptable, and which
give couples all the necessary means of having a healthy child.
A woman has the right to access health services that enable her to carry a pregnancy to term and
give birth without endangering her life.
Art. 2. - Reproductive health services are all the methods, techniques and services that contribute to
reproductive health and well-being, preventing and solving problems that may arise in this area.
Reproductive health services are concerned with sexual health. This aims to improve the quality of
life and interpersonal relationships.
Art. 3. - The right to reproductive health is a fundamental and universal right guaranteed to every
human being without discrimination based on age, sex, fortune, religion, race, ethnicity, marital
status or on any other situation.
Chapter II. - Reproductive health care and services
Art. 4. - Reproductive health care and services cover:
guidance, information, education, communication, research, resources, methods and, in
general, all family planning care;
safer motherhood by monitoring pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum;
post-abortion care benefits;
monitoring the growth and nutritional status of infants, promoting exclusive breastfeeding,
good weaning practices and vaccination;
the fight against sexually transmitted infections including HIV / AIDS;
prevention and management of disorders of the reproductive system, including cancer;
the fight against sterility and infertility;
the fight against female genital mutilation, sexual abuse and harmful practices to reproductive
health;
promotion of adolescent reproductive health;
all other health conditions in the field of sexuality and reproduction.
