Powers of High Court:
A High Court may pass any sentence authorized by law.

Powers of the County Court of Magistrate of First Class:
(1)
The Court of a Magistrate of the first Class may pass the following sentences,
when trying an offence non summarily namely: (a) imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years;
(b) fine not exceeding Ls300;
(c) whipping.
(d)detention under section 67 of the Penal Code.

When trying an offence summarily when it may pass the following sentences,
namely: (i) imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year;
(ii) fine not exceeding Ls100;
(iii) whipping.
Powers of County Court of Magistrate of Second Class:
The County Court of a Magistrate of the Second Class may pass the following sentences,
namely: (a)
(b)
(c)
(d)
imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years;
fine not exceeding Ls.200, 000;
whipping;
detention under section 67 of the Penal Code except when trying an offence
summarily when it may pass the following sentences, namely: -
(a)imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months;
(b)fine not exceeding Ls.50, 000
(c)whipping.

Powers of Payam Court.
The Payam Court shall only try cases summarily and may pass the following sentences
namely: (a) imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year;
(b) fine not exceeding Ls.100.
