The principle enunciated in the passage quoted from that judgment is clear. It has not been invalidated by the legislative introduction of correctional supervision as a sentencing option, nor by the later decision of this court in S v R 1993 (1) SA 476 (A), where the facts differed and the complainant was almost twice as old as E.. Children are vulnerable to abuse, and the younger they are, the more vulnerable they are. They are usually abused by those who think they can get away with it, and all too often do.
