/ Act Domestic Violence Act 2010 THE REPUBLIC OF UGA DA THE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ACT 2010. AN ACT to provide for the protection and relief of victims of domestic violence; to provide for the punishment of perpetrators of domestic violence; to provide for the procedure and guidelines to be follow,ed by the court in relation to the protection and compensation of victims of domestic violence; to provide for the jurisdiction of court; to provide for the enforcement of orders made by the court; to empower the family and children court to handle cases of domestic violence and for related matters. DATE OF ASS ENT: Date of Commencement: BE IT ENACTED by Parliament as fo llows: PART I- PRELIMINARY 1. Commencement. This Act shall come into force on a date appointed by the Mini ster by statutory instrument. 2. Interpretation. In this Act, unless the context otherwi se requires"court" means a magistrates court, a local counci l court or a family and c hildren co urt; "cmTency point" means the value of a cuTTency point specified in the F irst Schedule;
