Law N° 025-2018/AN on the Penal Code was adopted in May 2018. It has several sections, chapters and articles, addressing a wide range of issues, including sanctions for criminal matters, sanctions for correctional matters, sanctions for misdemeanors, as well as sanctions for aggravated and mitigating circumstances. It also has provisions for offences against public affairs, offences against national security, and offences related to destabilization of the State; offences against the Constitution and public liberties; racist, religious, tribal and sexist offences; offences linked with corruption and fraud; offences related to disruption of public order; offences associated with drugs and narcotics; genocide and crimes against humanity. The law also makes provisions on offences against individuals and trafficking of persons. It makes detailed provisions on offences against women and girls, including abduction, cruel treatment, sexual slavery/servitude, psychological violence against women and girls, female genital mutilation, abortion, and accusation of witchcraft. The law also addresses offences associated with marriage and family life; offences against children and vulnerable peoples, including persons with disability and elderly persons, as well as online/digital crimes.
