Habimana Djumapili is accused of raping an 8-year-old girl whom he found in his room. The step-mother to the girl raised the allegation after finding sperm on the girl's underwear. The High Court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to 15 years in prison, considering he was a first-time offender. The accused appeals the decision before the Supreme Court, arguing that he was tried at the High Court in absentia and without a a lawyer, and that the step-mother of the child was falsely accusing him; he however later admits sexually assaulting the child and apologizes. The Supreme Court reduces his sentence to 10 years in prison.
