17 and lacking its detrimental and degrading effects, correctional supervision is, in the words of Kriegler AJA, " 'n gevoelige straf". The treatment of "probationers" (who are by definition persons who are subject to correctional supervision) is prescribed in s.84 of Act No 8 of 1959: " 84.
